My focus is helping 1st Responders and their families who are immersed in work, juggling schedules, and family responsibilities be mindful of their health by setting goals and creating success, all while feeling less anxious.
I have spent more than 25 years working as a sworn officer for a county police department. I started as a police officer in 1996 and currently hold the rank of Lieutenant. Four years into my career, I was selected to work in a specialized unit called the Mobile Crisis Team (MCT). The MCT consisted of a police officer (me) and a specially trained mental health clinician. We responded to all calls for service in the county that were for a subject who was experiencing a crisis, suffering from a mental illness, suicidal, homicidal, or in need of support services. The goals of our team were to provide an on-scene assessment and when possible divert these individuals from the criminal justice system, as well as, diverting them from the hospital emergency rooms. These interactions provided the police department the opportunity to de-escalate these situations, and to link these community members to longer term treatment services and providers. Additionally on this team, I conducted threat assessments for threats that occurred in the workplace, threats in schools, and threats on police. I am so happy that I followed my heart because I love my profession. I am proud to be an officer and find it a privilege everyday
